Moving Within Denton County: A Step-by-Step Guide

So you are ready to make your move. You’ve made sure the home is ready for the transition, confirmed financing and timing, verified school district and property-tax details for the specific address, and reviewed essential home documents such as inspections, seller disclosures, HOA rules, and insurance requirements.

1. Book the Move 4–8 Weeks Out

Reserve a moving company or rental truck as soon as the move date is reasonably firm.

Create a room-by-room packing list.
Sort items to donate or discard.
Keep essential documents, medications, valuables and closing paperwork separate from moving boxes.
Confirm your mover’s arrival window, access needs, and any parking or HOA requirements.

2. Arrange Services 2–4 Weeks Out

Contact providers early to schedule utility transfers or new service at the new address:

Electricity
Water
Trash service
Internet and TV service

Because providers can vary by address, confirm availability directly for your exact home. Also submit a USPS mail-forwarding request and confirm your closing date, time and required funds with the title company.

3. Prepare for Move-In Week

Finish packing nonessential items
Label every box with the room and contents.
Plan furniture placement.
Complete a final walkthrough before closing to verify the home’s condition and any agreed repairs.
Keep utility confirmations, keys, garage remotes, and important contact numbers accessible, not packed.

4. Do a Final Address Check

Update your address with your employer, banks, insurers, doctors, subscriptions, and schools. Before considering the move complete, verify that utilities are active, trash service is scheduled, mail is forwarding, and all local records reflect your new Denton County address.

Ask about protection before moving day and get the details in writing. All moving companies must offer Limited Liability Coverage free with every move.

I recently hired Duryea Moving Company to help move my parents from the home they loved for over 20 years to an assisted living facility 60 miles away. The crew worked efficiently and respectfully as my parents were present when their belongings were being packed.I highly recommend Duryea Moving Company!read more

I cannot recommend this company highly enough. We recently downsized from a two story home to a one story home for health reasons. Some friends recommended this company. I checked out several companies and this was the only company who personally... came out to give us a quote. Not only did they come out but it was the owner, Todd Duryea who visited us. I was impressed with the personalized service and his time. His team of employees are absolutely THE best! They worked incredibly hard on our behalf and showed such care with our belongings. I believe a team and their worth filters down from the top. Mr. Duryea has surrounded himself with likeminded people who work hard and care about their customers. How refreshing to have customer satisfaction be the top goal! Thank you Duryea Moving for making this incredibly hard task so much easier!read more

These people are the best!! I've moved all over the world and this, my last move, was the smoothest ever. Todd and his crew went beyond good service. When the Salvation Army didn't turn up to pick up furniture we didn't want to move, they offered... to drop it off for me. They arrived when they said they would and when he had extra truck room, offered to transport some of my really big potted plants. Can't say enough good things about them.read more
